Jamie, the owner of Reign Fine, was having a Sherri Hill gown trunk show! The gowns were amazing, and beautiful we all felt like queens trying them on!! oh my gosh...WOW!!! Jamie was amazing and really spent a lot of time helping us and making sure we were not only having a good time but finding everything we came in for! Big Brothers and Big Sisters Weekend with The Volunteer Center

I had an exciting week, I officially am a spokesperson with the Volunteer Center of Greensboro and the state of NC to promote my platform of advocating Volunteerism. To top that off, we have established a partnership with the hands on network with is the national affiliate for the 400 Volunteer Centers established nationwide. Under these volunteer centers they help various non-profit organizations, one of which is Big Brothers/Big Sisters. This weekend was full of amazing events and opprotunities with BBBS! I met my little brother who I am matched with, he is in first grade and I look foward to working with him once a week on reading, writing, math and having fun around campus in the computer lab, the library and lunch time! On saturday morning at Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, NC BBBS had their annual "Bowl for the Kids Sake" bowl-a-thon fundraiser. I was asked to be a celebrity bowler for the event, and as it would turn out I wasn't a half bad bowler (it must have been because I knew I was being filmed...I was doing better under pressure!) ha ha! One of the other bowlers was a WFMY News 2 anchor, and he brought the camera crew with him! (you can check out our bowling at http://www.digtriad.com/ and search bowling for the kids sake). I met a lot of new friends, one of which was Jennifer, who was a little sister there, and my bowling partner (seen in the pictures with her big sister Evelyn above). Several local businesses had sponsored lanes and prizes to help the fundraiser and a DJ was there to keep it hoppin'! We had a great time, for a great cause! I look foward to the work I will continue to do with BBBS and know that every match really benefits the child!

Speaking Engagement In Durham, NC

On Tuesday March 17, I traveled to Durham on behalf of my University for an event with our Chancellor. I met some alumni and staff, as well as board members at UNC Greensboro. The event was recognizing and honoring our new Chancellor Linda Brady. As well as highlighting a student! I was honored that student was me! The event was at an alumni's house in Durham, whose picture I have posted with this, as well as pictures while I am speaking! I had a great time, I was introduced by the Chancellor and spoke about my choice for switching from NCSU to UNCG and my accomplishments since then! One of which was being crowned Miss North Carolina International. I highlighted my platform and my new partnership with the Volunteer Center in Greensboro which is a national affiliate with Hands On Network and Points of Light Foundation. "I feel very honored, and blessed to represent my state at the National Pageant and advocate volunteerism!" When I left, I was told that in fact they felt motivated to go to the one of eight volunteer centers in the state and find a volunteer opprotunity that fits them just right!

3/12 LBD&Goodwill "Give a Girl a Prom Dress" and Sparkle Plenty Birthday Party*

Every year at Prom season, Little Black Dress of Greensboro and Goodwill Industries team up for the "Give a Girl a Prom Dress" fundraisor. This partnership means providing girls with affordable Prom dresses at any goodwill location, and customers shopping at LBD can donate gently used Prom dresses for 15% off any new prom dress! So it is a win/win situation!
there were 5 models showing off new Prom 09 fashions and the latest trends, and I was a special guest working to promote this dress drive! The owner, Kim Wainer, in Greensboro began this promotion last year and we worked together last year and this year to make sure it only keeps growing to help as many girls as possible! Fox 8 covered the story in the store bright and early on March 12! we did 5 segments on new prom and the donated dresses and how you can get them! It was great coverage for Kim and Little Black Dress because she is doing so much to help/volunteer her time in her community!
On Sunday March 15 I was asked to help celebrate 2 very special birthdays! It was at a place in GSO called Sparkle Plenty and it makes all the little girls look and feel like the Princesses they are!! Not to mention they sang some great kareoke! Way to go girls! I will have more pictures coming soon, but here are a few I took from today! I loved spending time with these sweet little girls, who really seemed to love the bling on the tiara!! (ha ha) It was so much fun! The cake wasn't too bad either =)

3/7 Caitlen's Closet Dress Giveaway& Miss SE Pageant

Christina and I went to My Party Place in Kernersville with Katie Godfrey, Mrs. Piedmont Triad. Katie had set up this donation dress give away for girls wanting to go to Prom who couldn't afford dresses! It was the perfect chance for us to meet the girls and help them put together the perfect prom outfits: The Dress, The Shoes, and The Jewelry!!!! The girls were there with their moms, and they tried on dresses that had been donated and modeled them on the runway! Katie did such a great job of putting this all together, and she even had snacks! It was so great to be a part of something that was helping other people, and being able to just give these girls a dress to make their prom night special really meant a lot to everyone that helped make this event happen! Thank you Katie!!

Being at the Miss Southeast Pageant was so much fun because we were all together! Well Christina and I just watched, but I know one great judge who helped pick a solid winner!! Good Job LaDaria! Miss North Carolina MAO was also there, Amanda Watson! I even saw my high school Principal from 5 years ago!!!! The 12 girls competing did a fantastic job in fitness, talent and evening gown! But Congrats to the new Miss Southeast....Jessica Coble!

3/6-3/8 Women's ACC Tournament with FRIENDS

I am a spokesperson for FRIENDS for an earlier breast cancer detection organization. FRIENDS had a table set up at the women's ACC tournament. This organization is different because it provides direct grants to researchers that funds technology for earlier detection, instead of finding a cure. Our slogan was Ribbon Ends pointing upward in a new direction for earlier detection. It represents optimism for a better tomorrow! This was a 3 day event for me, so it was really great to see familiar faces coming back each day! We passed out pink ribbons (by we, I mean a team of volunteers, or as I like to say a team of FRIENDS). It was very touching to hear some people's stories of survival or loved ones lost to breast cancer. The ACC theme song was called "She can play," by Damien Horne. He also played a benefit concert downtown for the Organization. He also played at halftime of the Championship game (MD won!) and it was dedicated to former NCSU coach, Kay Yow, who lost her life to cancer this past year. His tribute was so wonderful to such a remarkable coach, woman, and friend!
I got great reception at the Greensboro Coliseum, there were so many children's groups, families and some very cute little girls who were terrific! For the championship game, I got to sit on the court! There was also a team of great people that I got the pleasure of working with all weekend. Including the founder of FRIENDS, Marth Kaley who has been such an inspiration to me! Her hard work and sacrifice is changing lives around the world, and I feel so blessed to be a part of such a great organization!

About Me

My Name is Julie Tesh, I am from Greensbor NC. I am 23 years old, and was crowned Miss North Carolina International 2009 on Feb. 28th 2009! My greatest accomplishment was being a White House Intern last year, I have done a lot of really cool things, but nothing will compare to my journey this year as Miss NC!!

I am a senior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a communication and Political Science major. I was a former Spartan Cheerleader and am currently involved with SGA (student government). I believe that education is very important and will be going back to school to get my masters when I graduate undergrad in December!! (yay*!) I love the international pageant system because it is a great way to promote my platform, which is advocating volunteerism! This system will really help me to make a difference!! I believe that we are all here to leave the world a better place than how we found it, what better way to do that then make an impact on someones life! There are so many ways to volunteer, all it takes is something that you are passionate about or just wanting to help with an organization or a project in your schools, neighborhoods or communities! I am currently working with Big Brothers/Big Sisters in GSO, Habitat, FRIENDS and other organizations in the future, I hope! I hope that my year as Miss North Carolina will be spent not just having fun, but making a difference in the lives of others around me! I love life, and I love my friends and family, I certainly wouldn't be there without their love and support! I believe in living this life to its fullest, and making the most of everything! So I am going to make the most of my year as Miss North Carolina International 2009, enjoy my experiences and opprotunies with me as I go on this amazing journey!

The Pageant was awesome! We had such a great time, these are some pictures from the Pageant weekend, of me and these LOVELY ladies!! They were all amazing young women!! I was crowned on Saturday Feb. 28, 2009 and on March 1st, my first day as the new NC state titleholder I had a photo shoot with the amazing Donald Latham, and my new beautiful sister queens...LaDaria and Christina!!! Then my first appearance was on the Morning Show with WFMY 2, I was a special guest and talked about my platform on March 4th!
