Senator Hatch, on his award and participation in the Service America Act, benefitting Volunteers Nationwide!

Continuing National Volunteer Week….Reception put on by Points of Light Institute honoring Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Senator Edward Kennedy(who was not there to accept the award) it was in Russell Senate Office Building from 5:30-7:30. Senator Hatch was given the Lifetime of leadership award for his volunteer and service, he was also honored for helping with the Service America Act which was signed into an executive order by the President on April 21, 2009 (along with other honorary congressional committees who participated in the act). There were a lot of wonderful people there, whom I had met earlier at the luncheon as well as new people and a lot of legislators from the hill and their staff. I got to see Senator John Kerry and Usher was a special guest at the event (so I got to meet him and take a picture with him, he had a lot of volunteer work with Hurricane Katrina from a few years ago).
